It’s been a while…

and I’ve been wanting to write about this for quite some time but it’s hard to find the words when it’s such a weird feeling?

Most of you, if not all of you, know that I’m a mum. A mum to the most amazing 6 year old named Isla.

And for the most part, I’ve really been struggling to find my footing in this space – ‘the blogosphere’. Yes, I love clothes (seriously, shopping makes me so happy and I tell people this all the time) and of course I love my child too, but I really cannot find the balance on my channels – I feel too fashion focused, then too mum-orientated but it’s what I know… or so I think, sometimes.

Recently I’ve realised something though – I get really stressed about how other mums may perceive me. It’s such a confusing feeling and there are so many of these parenting events that I would like to go to, it’s just… what will they think?

My kid isn’t neurotypical – so they’re going to think she’s weird.
My kid is 6 and still in nappies – clearly I don’t try hard enough to get her out of them.
My kid only eats 3 different things – I must not have introduced her to new foods as much as I should have.
My kid doesn’t talk – how on earth do we communicate, etc. etc.

I’m worried about their perceptions of how I interact with her and how I parent, because clearly, everyone else is doing a much better job than I am. And it stretches through to my friends too – I’ve realised recently, that I do everything I can to avoid doing things with my friends AND Isla.

I’m terrified that they think I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing.
I’m terrified of something happening that I can’t do anything about.

I will join local parenting groups, I’ll join mum Instagram pages that run meet ups, but I’ll sit and watch from afar at the mums who have their shit together and can all completely relate to one another.

Parenting Imposter Syndrome
is what I call it.

And although I’m more than aware that every parent struggles with getting to grips with it all, the fear is so real and I can’t bear the worry of other people’s opinions about me and my child.

And yes, it stretches to ASD too – I’m sure I can find like minded parents who deal with exactly the same things as I do and I STILL will worry that I am doing it all completely wrong; that they will know everything there is to know on how to parent a child with ASD, and me on the other hand? Not a clue.

Is is shame? I don’t believe it is. I believe it’s more of a protective thing. I’m so proud of Isla and how far she’s come. It certainly is something I’m really worried about if we decided to have another child too.

I know this is just a barrage of words… it probably doesn’t make too much sense but it feels good to finally get it out of my head – that constant worry.

I guess there isn’t really an easy solution but to try and work through it, but God knows when I’ll find the courage to actually put that first foot forward, be brave and try and shift this worry.

WELL WELL WELL.

We haven’t been here for a while have we? I don’t know what’s happening but I’ve had a blog itch that I’ve needed to scratch so, well, I’m scratching it. Now that makes it sound like I’m going to be popping off again, and I’m hoping that that isn’t the case but after 7 years of doing this, I’ve learnt that you really do fall in and out of love with this platform and I truly believe that after a little dip from all ends, having your very own platform to voice your opinions is coming back.

I’ve always felt that this blog has been somewhere to share the looks that I really enjoy to style and wear. I personally love in depth pieces of content to read from other creators but my brain is too busy thinking about everything else in my life, to sit down and come out with a load of words about something inspirational or thought provoking. Credit to you if you’re talented enough to do that, because I truly envy you!

So, as before, here is what I wore this weekend.

One of my best friends, Megan (who also shot these) popped back home for the weekend, so I spent the day with her in Stamford, browsing the shops and drinking lattes and tea. The weather turned right before we shot these and I had to head home with a curly head of hair, so that’s going to need sorting tomorrow.

I’ve been collecting a few bits and pieces for Autumn/Winter over the last few weeks and I’m at a point now in my wardrobe where I think I’m quite happy with how it looks. Of course, in this particular look it’s the leopard print jumper and khaki long line coat that personally stand out for me. The latter is from last season and an Ebay find (I believe last year, Topshop were selling them for around £85-£90?) at just £37 and is now a firm favourite. I am always on the look out for a military style, double breasted coat, purely because it’s just what I feel comfortable in and it’s a lot more of a laid back look here styled with my favourite pair of Gucci inspired trainers, rather than a rigid night time or a smart work wear outfit (which I’m sure I’ll share some other time, since I spent most days in them).

What do we think?

Well, the khaki obsession continues…

If there’ s one colour I’m really enjoying at the moment, it’s definitely khaki green. If you read my recent post, you’d have seen that I rediscovered the shacket that I picked up in Primark last summer and consequently wore repeatedly until it became a little too cold to justify it as a decent cover up.

It’s such a plain colour, but having a khaki green item in my wardrobe holds some sort of importance for me, because I know I’ll always get a lot of wear out of it, whatever season we may be in.  I’ve said it countless times, but although I’m try to delve into a more bright wardrobe, neutrals always pull me back in, and I tend to gravitate towards these tones a lot more than I care to admit. Wait – I don’t actually care haha, I love the basics, and it’s the ease of them that I find the best.

I’m quite a lazy dresser. I feel like events like LFW would just not be for me, purely because my personality is not made for standing out (probably a weakness of mine in this industry, who knows?) and I couldn’t think of anything worse than dressing flamboyantly (although bloggers like Megan and Lucy are absolute masters at this and look amazing in EVERYTHING?), but I love grabbing something, slinging it on and going. Any outfit that requires a lot of thought (and admittedly, I do think about my outfits a lot – particularly for weddings and social events since they don’t happen too often and I like to look nice), day to day in particular, is something that immediately puts me off and I end up starting at square one again; usually with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt – the staples guys. The staples. I find that this way, it’s a lot easier to show my personal style a bit more, and although I do love looking at other people for inspiration, I’m finding that picking out specific pieces of clothing, whether it’s already in my wardrobe or newly bought, and just working around it has given me a lot more confidence in regards to the way I dress, and subsequently the way I view myself as a style blogger. It feels less forced, and that’s something I really try to live by when I pick an outfit everyday.

I recently picked these trousers up from Topshop, after searching high and low for a pair of khaki trousers/chinos/jeans/whatever that may have looked nice on me, to style against my sk8-hi Vans. I rediscovered them after 5 or so years of them being hidden away in a shoe box, and immediately thought, “some rolled up khaki trousers would look awesome with these.”

So I came across this pair and I was sold. The great thing about them, is that they would look awesome with a little white crop/t-shirt when it’s a little warmer. Or a light grey in actual fact, but I had this ribbed body to hand and felt like, for the weather, this would be the best option. With the top being so fitted, and the paper-bag finish on the trousers, it turned out to be the most flattering pairing anyway, which is exactly what I’d hoped for.

And for the record, these are the softest pair of trousers I own – 100% worth the price tag. What do you think?

Let’s catch up…

HEY GUYS.
As promised, I wanted to give you a little low-down on how my month has gone – I know in the past these have been quite popular, so I thought I’d bring them back! Just to toot my own horn here, don’t you love this little photo? I love that the moon made an appearance at 2.30 in the afternoon, so cute!

  • February marked mine and Adam’s 4 year anniversary, woohoo! We got Bon Iver tickets before Christmas, as a way of celebrating (I’ll chat about that later), but we also decided that chicken and cocktails were so needed and popped off to Turtle Bay for a few drinks (I do enjoy a fancy colourful drink,  guys).
  • The month of February also marked the re-start of my blog and Youtube channel (little plug – if you aren’t subbed, then gogogo!), and I have to say I’m really, really enjoying it. I don’t feel as much pressure, being able to do it on own time and pace is exactly what I needed. I think I put so much pressure on myself to keep up last year, and now, particularly with Instagram, I feel like I’ve shifted the importance of things over to what actually needs to be prioritised. Funnily enough, I get the majority of my traffic from my Instagram now which is great, and has shown me that I made the right choices with the platform.

    • I also realised that I’d stopped taking as many photos, particularly with Isla, which made me feel a bit rubbish. So I decided to change that, and look! Isn’t she just the best? My whoooole world right there – I’ll try and post a bit more, and I’ve got a little more up my sleeve so I’m very excited to show you soon!
    • Somehow, I got invited to an overnight stay with Benefit Cosmetics to celebrate the launch of their new BADgal Bang mascara and it was AWESOME. I haven’t really been to an event since Isla was born (I KNOW.), so it was a little daunting, but everyone was so lovely, and I finally got to meet Georgia and Corrie, both of whom I’ve known for years and I can confirm, they are bloody lovely. We went to the National Space Station, got to have a peruse of all things space related, learnt more about the ins and outs of the mascara, and had a lovely dinner before heading back to the hotel (which had awesome pillows, just fyi).
LOOK AT MY CUTE LIGHT UP ROCKET BAG.

    • I popped down to the big smoke to spend the weekend with my two best friends, Megan and Maz – a lot of catch ups were had, several glasses of wine were drunk and exploring the city. We went to the Sky Garden too, which was awesome! I’ll definitely like to go back in the summer, but the weather, albeit being bitterly cold, behaved itself and we managed to get some super cute snaps.

  • Adam and I popped back down to London to see Bon Iver this weekend (OK technically not February but it was to celebrate our anniversary so…?), and it was AMAZING. We had so much fun, and I have to say, we were both blown away by it all. The minute the music started, the whole crowd went silent, and it continued like that throughout the gig, AND, and this is something that Adam and I both noticed – there were hardly any phones out filming it? That’s not something I’ve seen in a very long time, and it was really nice. If you haven’t listened to Bon Iver, I highly recommend if you’re into that sort of indie folk vibes.

Aside from these, I had a new starter on my team at work and she’s already allowed me to streamline our work a bit better. Y’know when you get to the point where you have so much to do, you don’t get a lot done? That happened, so I’m very grateful to have someone who is happy to just crack on.

The snow has also been a bit of a ballache hasn’t it? I’m so over this weather – We really want to do more with Isla and with the cold weather, we spend such a huge amount of time indoors and I’d just like to get out a bit more now! C’mon snow, melt!

So there we go! That’s my month for you – if you’d like to see more of something, please do let me know. If you haven’t already, be sure to catch up on my posts:

Spring is nearly here and the khaki shacket is back.

HI ALL – are we all enjoying the snow?
If you follow me on Twitter, you’d have seen my tweets expressing my hatred of it (sorry I am the snow Grinch). I don’t think this is the first time I’ve moaned about it either (lols) – the initial blanket of snow always looks beautiful; untouched, warm when you’re looking at it from the inside, and then morning hits and you’re struggling to scrape 20cm of snow off your car and your tyres are spinning on the drive. When you eventually find the courage to reverse back onto the road, you’re backing out so slowly to avoid skidding into the car on the opposite side of the road, and then you’ve got to avoid all the pissing black ice and I’ve just not got time for it lads, I just do not.

Nuh-huh. Not for my southern hemisphere ass, no siree.

Anyway, enough negativity, let’s all hope and pray for some (relatively) warm sun and pretty blooming flowers, because I AM SO READY FOR IT. Speaking of which, despite the baltic conditions, I decided to brave the weather (pretending it’s Spring already over here, haay), and go out in just a jumper and my favourite shirt/jacket from last summer. I originally got this from Primark last year, and it was hands down one of the best purchases of 2017 – decent thickness and awesome quality. Totally worth the £15-£20 I spent on it, guys. I’m hoping they’ll be doing them again, or at least something very similar this year again too, because they’re perfect to throw over a t-shirt and jeans, and that is something you’ll be seeing a lot of over on this here blog.

So I paired it with a black jumper, black jeans and my favourite heeled boots from Forever 21; in true Tami style, very simple and effective. I wore this down in London when I saw my friends and when Megan saw me, she said, “you look so… cool.”

Thanks Megan, because we both know that normally certainly isn’t true haha!

No style snippet with this look at the moment, but I’ll get one up on my channel soon. I’ve got a new video coming on Friday and finally a little update to what I got up to this month over the weekend too. Have good Wednesday guys!

Let’s chat about mini skirts and over the knee boots

A super simple look, with a super big impact…

OK, so the last in this little ‘Ways To Wear’ series – my favourite set of photos from this video I think!
I told you guys about my irrational worry over these shoes in the first of these posts last week, and the more I’ve shared the video to go with these, and the more I’ve had to edit these images, the more I’ve come to realise just how nice they actually are. I don’t often have full confidence in myself, but with these set of photos especially, I felt bloody great in this outfit and for once I don’t feel like I have to stifle that feeling.

ANYWAY, moving on from all the feels, I do love a little mini skirt and boots look. Generally in the past I’ve tended to lean more towards ankle boots for this type of outfit, and of course, that’s still a go-to style for me, but I’m LOVING matching my over the knee boots with mini skirts for a smarter evening look.

I got this vinyl skirt a little bit before Christmas, and initially, I was worried about how OUT there it was compared to a lot of the things in my wardrobe, but I LOVE it. I tend to go for a white t-shirt and my Vans if I want it to look a little more casj, and then this cute body from Topshop for dinner and drinks. I love the ribbed material and popper detail on the front, it’s so cute.

Obviously I couldn’t forget my lil baker boy hat, which my best friend Siân has just bought too and we both have dark hair and wear the same clothes, so that’ll be HILARIOUS when we meet up for our friend Amy’s hen do next month!

In other news, I took my nose piercing out yesterday and it’s already closed up, so that’s great (it’s fine really, I was so over it), and tomorrow I’m heading to a sleepover hosted by Benefit Cosmetics, which I am SO excited for! This is the first proper event I’ve gone to since Isla was born, can you believe that? I’m so ready to get back into it, ahhh.

In the words of Matthew M…
ALRIGHT ALRIGHT ALRIGHT.

Let’s talk jeans and over the knee boots.

I really like this look. Like really, really like it. If you take a peek at my Pinterest, aside from ‘interesting dinners’ and ‘balayage hair’ you’ll find that I’ve been searching for ‘jeans and over the knee boots’ a lot. As I said in my previous post, I’ve really struggled with styling these boots, and having come to the obvious conclusion of ‘fuck it,’ I’m really embracing these babies as much as possible.

That said, instead of going for the obvious black on black, I decided a nice contrast against the boots would be my favourite Topshop Jamie jeans, and I have to say, I’m pretty pleased with how this look came together.

I teamed it up with my new favourite embroidered t-shirt from Primark that says ‘NEW YORK’ (super cute), and my grey, almost tweed/check style blazer from Warehouse (not pictured) for a bit of warmth.

And let’s be completely honest – this look is pretty darn simple. A white tee, jeans and boots. A classic combination that I’ll be wearing throughout Spring. Throw on a cute little checked coat and your beanie, and it’s pretty transitional considering the dire weather we keep having, don’t you think?

Take a look at the Youtube video with this look in movement here:

HEY EVERYONE.

Happy Valentine’s Day.

This post hasn’t got anything to do with the ‘holiday’ unfortunately, but just a quick note that I just made another video live featuring this little outfit.

I’ve really been trying to wear my over the knee boots a little bit more, but for some reason I’ve got it in my head that they look super weird on me. But after a discussion with a group of my best friends, I thought f*ck it, I’m gonna share some of the ways I would wear them.

The 1st of March (unofficially) marks the start of Spring, which means FLORAAALS, and this will be where I’ll be able to make the most of this look a bit more! If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll know that I wore this dress in another post, with my Vans which I loved, but I think I may favour this look a little more?!

It’s simple, and covers any occasion which, let’s be honest, you kind of want in every outfit don’t you?

Have a look at the video here.

There will be more posts on ‘ways to wear over the knee boots’ coming over the next week.

Let’s chat go-to,casual outfits…

Hey everyone, happy Sunday!
I wanted to share one of my favourite looks with you today. I was going to get a little ‘What Went On This Month’ post up, but seeing as it’s more than a week into February, I’ll wait til the end of the month for that one and then I’ll catch you up on goings on and such, etc etc.

Since I spend the majority of my life in workwear, I try and use the weekends to really express my style a little bit more. This has been one of my go-to looks recently, and since the weather’s still pretty dreary, I’m reaching for my ribbed roll necks a lot more than usual.

My mom jeans are still my favourites, and although I tend to wear them with my Vans or slip ons (particularly during summer), I figured I’d pair them with my favourite May boots from Topshop, and I have to say I’m really loving this combination.

I’ve seen so many dupes for that ever popular Gucci belt (rumour is Primark’s got a very similar copy for £4, get yourself down there guys and gals), and since I definitely do not earn enough to justify that amount of money on a belt, I settled for this cute one from ASOS, and let’s be honest… it does the job. In all honesty, I actually prefer this style as the circles are a little thinner which I like.

Shall we talk about the ever popular baker boy hat or shall I just the photos do the talking? It speaks for itself really, doesn’t it.

For some reason I started getting really stressed with myself for not having a topic to talk about in this post, which is absolutely ridiculous – just have a lil read about my outfit haha, I hope you enjoy and have a fabulous Sunday!

This week I’ll hopefully have a new video up on my channel (go and subscribe!) see keep an eye out!
Oh and also, shout out to my lovely boyfriend Adam for being a 10/10 blog husband and standing out in the rain to shoot these, what a babe eh.

Workwear. Office workwear to be precise. I’ve had a love/hate relationship with the stuff. It’s been rocky for a good 5 years now. When I started my first office job, I really had no idea what I was doing style wise. With a tiny baby, and at a complete loss with what to wear (not to mention the fact that we were pretty much able to wear whatever we wanted, so that made it hard to gauge what was appropriate, so I wore those little a-line dresses that you got in Primark for a fiver. I loved them.), I stuck to the same sort of thing, and now as a fully fledged woman (lol), I feel like I’m pretty confident with how I dress for work.

As I got promotions, I felt like I needed to dress more appropriately. So came the trousers, and the heels, and now, I feel like this is the kind of look I’m going for, to make myself feel confident and able to do the job.

Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.

This was something I was told years ago, and truth be told, it’s really stuck with me. I know my old manager always said that applying her favourite lipstick made her feel fierce and like she had her shit together, and I have to say for me, a pair of good heels and the Super(wo)man pose are two things that really make me feel like I’ve got my shit together!

I’m super weird when it comes to associating my wardrobe with certain things though. Is anyone like this?! I feel really out of place if I wear things I would normally wear to work, on the weekends, for example. Unless it’s a casual day, I am more than happy to stretch to my Vans and mom jeans – but I’ve just got a thing with the office attire. In my head it’s associated with working, having to be professional, and in my down time, dressing a little more comfortably is my thing.

Anyway, I’ve rambled on enough about stuff – onto the outfit!
I’ve had these checked trousers for a good few months and they’ve served me well. With a flattering paper-bag style waist, and the little turn up on the bottom, I feel like these are probably my favourite fit, and add a little white t-shirt the way I have here to make it smart/casj and basic. But good basic!
Throw on my little beret for the morning (I still feel like I look like a bit of a wanker, but I’m going to roll with it), and my favourite black heels from ASOS, we are good to go for the day. I bloody love this outfit.
